Congress Reverses Extended Deadline for Form 5500
Congress passed the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (“FAST”) Act on December 3, 2015. FAST repeals the change to the extended due date of the Form 5500 that was authorized by the Surface Transportation and Veterans Health Care Choice Improvement Act of 2015 (the “Highway Bill”) and referenced in our October newsletter. The Highway Bill only extended the due date of the 5500 for calendar year plans and the new FAST legislation corrects this issue, restoring all Form 5500 deadlines to 7½ months following the due date of the return (generally October 15th for calendar year plans).
